Silent Home, 2012

Archival pigment prints
16" x 20"

This series, captured on large format film, explores the undercurrents of ennui and malaise in white-picket-fence suburban childhood. The people in each image are family members and friends; the settings are resurrected from my childhood (my elementary school, a neighbor's lawn). In reimagining my own family's past and present, I sought to challenge the historically specific American Dream borne by an entire wave of college-educated Chinese immigrants who flocked to the US after the P.R.C. relaxed emigration policies in 1977
