In 1985, Frank O'Connell was convicted of the murder of Jay French in Pasadena, California. Frank was 27 years old.

The only evidence against his was a positive identification by a single eyewitness. Years later, the eyewitness recanted his testimony and admitted that he had allowed police to pressure him into a false identification. Meanwhile, the victim's ex-girlfriend confessed to the murder to five different people. In addition, she admitted that an innocent man was in jail for the murder she committed.

On March 29, 2012, Frank O'Connell was exonerated unequivocally after having spent more than half his life in prison.
